Rare circa 1920s white linen Altar cloth adorned with finely worked filet crochet lace........
Altar Cloth, Vintage Ecclesiastical Linen.
The main area of crisp white linen has spaced filet crochet lace inserts comprising 3 large, individual crosses. The edge of the cloth having a narrow crochet border to the back and a deep filet crochet lace flounce around the sides and front - beautifully worked with a doves and chalice design. The doves & chalice design can be seen in the Weldon's magazine isued in 1926.
There is an embroidered whitework monogram to one of the back corners with the initials 'AG' - possibly the initials of the lady who may have worked this fine piece (?) There are also some laundry identification labels / marks.
Would make a nice display / practical piece, or authentic period prop
