Antique Victorian Berlin Woolwork Tapestry-Family Group

Antique Silk and Woolwork Embroidery Panel.

Fine example of an unframed Victorian Tapestry depicting a very Victorian scene of a family group - elderly father, mother and young daughter set within a large garland of flowers.

A unique, extremely well executed handworked tapestry .

Crafted with a variety of stitches on a fine mesh open weave canvas. The work also incorporates the use of the ancient art of Stumpwork to add a 3D effect.  

The well-defined faces,arms and hands of the three characters are not embroidered and appear to be a lithograph on a soft, smooth printed card-like material, or fine leather.
From the style and costumes of the characters it is likely that this work was made sometime during the early / mid Victorian era – circa 1850/60’s

Extremely good, having only a few minor, barely noticeable, issues - all commensurate with its age and material.
